The Hart House Literary and Library Committee sponsors annual literary contests that are open to all Hart House members and alumni, including all current students and alumni of the University of Toronto.

The winning entry of each contest is published both in the Hart House Review’s annual print edition and here on our website. The second and third-place entries of each contest are published here on the Hart House Review website.

All contest submissions will also be considered for publication in the Hart House Review.

Submissions to the Hart House Literary and Poetry Contests are due January 22, 2017.


The Hart House Literary Contest

Submissions for the Hart House Literary Contest will be open from November 7, 2016 until January 22, 2017. Submissions to the contest will also be considered for the 2017 Edition of the Hart House Review.

Submit a single literary prose work of no more than 3,000 words here by January 22, 2017.

The contest is open to all Hart House Members in good standing (students at all levels of study, Senior or Joint Plan members), excluding judges and professional writers of fiction and non-fiction, i.e. those who have earned more than $1000 for their writing.

The winning story will be published in the Hart House Review. The third, second, and first-place winners will be notified by the Literary & Library Committee in February and announced at the Hart House Review launch.

All entrants are invited to the Review launch and awards presentation, which will take place on April 7, 2017.

1st Prize: $150 & publication in the Review

2nd Prize $100 & publication on the Review‘s website

3rd Prize $50 & publication on the Review‘s website
